Students from IES Sánchez Lastra, Spain, have been making traps for the Asian yellow-legged hornet Vespa velutina. These invasive insects are affecting several countries in Europe, and causing a lot of damage on beehives, as they prey on the bees.
To make the traps students were using plastic bottles and mixing water, sugar and yeast. After ten days we checked the effectiveness of the traps placed on the school yard.
